Riya Chopra has been with the Firm since April 2022.
She is a member of the Investment Funds and Financial Services Regulatory Team. She has advised various domestic fund managers on formation and registration of alternative investment funds (including private equity funds, hedge funds, social impact funds, venture capital funds, debt funds and so on), and drafting, and negotiation of associated fund documentation. She also assists in structuring of the India focused offshore funds. She has wide experience in advising capital market intermediaries including investment advisers, portfolio managers, mutual funds, stock brokers on registrations, change in control, governance and compliance aspects. She also advises foreign institutional investors in connection with exchange control laws with respect to investments in alternative investments funds. She plays a key role in the Firm’s Regulatory Practice and regularly represents fund managers and other capital market intermediaries before regulatory authorities including SEBI, on contentious issues such as investigations, inspections, adjudications, settlement proceedings, enquiries and so on.
Prior to joining IC Legal, Riya has worked with leading law firms in India as part of their Investment Funds and Regulatory Financial Services Practices.
She also holds a degree in law (B.A. LLB.) from Symbiosis International University, Pune.

P.S.: Outside of work Riya involves herself actively in social and policy work including leading capacity development initiatives for the youth in rural parts of India as well as in mental health social groups. Riya is also a professionally trained swimmer. She loves exploring new places, cultures and cuisines.
